This one day workshop is designed for those whose multiples are aged between one and five years and is an opportunity to explore your parenting alone.  Topics covered include managing behaviour, promoting individuality, family relationships and preparing for pre/primary school.

We need a maximum of 14 participants to make this course viable and we are emailing you to see if you would be interested in attending.

The workshop runs from 10am-4.30pm and the cost per place is £30.

CTG is calling for:

• More flexibility around ward visiting for partners
•  More consistent advice and encouragement with feeding
• Better preparation for parents of multiples – particularly the likelihood that one or more of their babies will need care in a neonatal/special care baby unit
• Better maternity planning so that women and their babies can all stay together in the same hospital.

The report ‘Tamba twins & multiples healthcare survey – making progress’ identified that 22% of mothers were worried about their care post delivery and frequently complained of being “abandoned” and struggling to look after more than one baby in postnatal wards. Parents felt that there was a need for postnatal wards to be more
understanding of the realities of multiple births, such as the differing feeding demands of multiples, and give allowance for visitors outside of normal hours,
particularly at night when many wards are short-staffed.

Ellie Dutton Chair of CTG  said: “This is a concern as the survey found that women who have attended multiple-specific classes run by their hospital or Tamba are better prepared and less likely to develop postnatal depression and feel overwhelmed. Our local club can also help by enabling new and expectant parents to meet other multiple
families.”

The survey showed that mothers wanted more support with feeding with a lot of incorrect and inconsistent advice being given to mothers of multiples on postnatal wards. Parents also felt that there was a need for postnatal wards to be more understanding of the realities of multiple births, particularly with feeding.

While fewer families are reportedly being separated, it is still an issue as almost one in ten mothers were split up from one or more of their babies.

Ellie Dutton said: “A lot of our members went through the issues highlighted in the report.”

CTG meets every week at Charlton Kings Baptist Church on Fridays 10-12.
